Appointment System

How Does Our Appointment System Work?

Our appointments system aims to offer a consultation with a GP within 48 hours or a nurse within 24 hours.

  • All consultations are by appointment only.
  • Telephone consultations with a doctor can be booked.
  • Requests for 'On the day' appointments will be triaged by a GP who will call you back to discuss your medical needs.
  • You may be offered an appointment with a practice nurse.
  • Each appointment is for one person only.
  • Where an appointment is for a specialised procedure, please contact our Reception Team to book.
  • Patients with more than one issue to discuss, should book a double appointment to ensure that appropriate consultation can take place. Otherwise, patients may be asked to book another appointment at a later date by the clinician.
  • Urgent cases will be seen on the day, but we may not be able to offer a choice of doctors or times.
  • Online Booking is available through the website with a log on and password obtained from our reception staff.

Please note a GP surgery receptionist is not simply someone who answers the phone - they are specially trained to help you get the most appropriate treatment as fast as possible. In order to do this, they need to ask you questions about why you need to see a doctor, often they might be able to get you a Nurse or Physio appointment faster.

We are unable to book appointments via email as we can not guarantee our emails will be checked everyday. If you require an appointment please contact your branch surgery by telephone (contact details can be found here) or you can book an appointment using your online account via the SystmOnline log in found here

NEW!! Launching on from 1st February 2024- Sit and wait blood test service.

From the 1st February 2024 we will now be running the sit and wait blood service at East Leake as well as still running this at Keyworth

Monday– Friday 9:00am– 12:00pm

The drop-in service is for patients who have been asked by a Clinician to have a blood test. Patients requiring hospital bloods may also use the service (only if you have a Nottingham University Hospital blood form).

Please arrive at Keyworth or East Leake reception desk between 9:00am-12:00pm. No pre-bookings and no telephone bookings.

Anyone arriving after 12:00pm will be asked to come another day.

Please only attend if you have been asked to supply a blood sample. If a clinician has not requested a blood test you will be turned away.

Unfortunately we will be unable to accept patients 16 and under at the sit and wait clinic as we only have a limited amount of Healthcare Assistants trained to do Paediatric blood tests and we can not guarantee these will be available on the day.

Cancellations and Missed Appointments

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Number of Missed Appointments in

March 2024

11,559 Appointments were made

350 Appointments were missed.

6649 minutes of clinicians’ time was lost.

Approximately £10,500 to the NHS was lost.

Are You Late For Your Appointment?

Please be aware that if you arrive late for your appointment, we are unable to just fit you in.

Typically our appointment slots are only set at 10 minutes long, this is to find a balance between helping as many patients as we can and giving the best quality of care. Therefore, if the clinician thinks it will be unsuitable or clinically unsafe to attempt to see you for the remainder of your appointment, they may ask you to wait until the end of their clinic or decline to see you at all. If you are unable to wait, we can try to rebook you a routine appointment.

If we are rebooking a missed appointment, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to book an appointment with the same GP or at the same time of day.

Extended Hours Service

How do I Access the Extended Hours Service?

DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE EXTENDED HOURS HAS BEEN REINTRODUCED WITH CHANGES TO THE SERVICE.

As a Rushcliffe patient you can now access routine appointments in the evenings and at weekends. These appointments are best suited for things that will not need an on-going review by your usual practice.

You can book these appointments through your own surgery branch during their opening hours. The appointments are between 6.30pm and 8pm in the evening on weekdays and between 8.30am and 5.00pm at weekends. If you request one of these appointments, which are outside of usual working hours then you will be offered a slot with a Rushcliffe GP, Nurse or Healthcare Assistant at one of three locations across the borough. The location will depend on the day of your appointment.

The additional evening and weekend appointments will be available at:

  • Belvoir Health Group *(Mondays and Thursdays)
  • Castle Healthcare Practice *(Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays & Sundays)
  • Keyworth Medical Practice *(Fridays)
  • East Leake Health Centre *(Tuesdays)
  • Radcliffe-On-Trent Surgery *(Thursdays)

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL EXTENDED HOURS APPOINTMENTS ARE PREBOOKABLE ONLY BY CONTACTING YOUR OWN GP PRACTICE. THERE IS NO WALK IN SERVICE OFFERED. IF YOU REQUIRE URGENT ASSISTANCE BEFORE 8AM OR AFTER 6.30PM, PLEASE CALL 111 OR FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCIES CALL 999.

Extended Hours

Home Visits

We offer home visits to patients who are housebound or requiring end of life care. We request that all other patients attend the surgery for their appointments. It is important that we are able to use the most appropriate examination facilities, lighting and equipment in order to provide you with high quality care.

If you or your carer requests a home visit, you will receive a telephone call from a GP to discuss the problem and the most appropriate management.

If you think you may need a home visit please contact the surgery in the morning if possible.

Chaperones

Chaperones are available for the safety and comfort of both our patients and staff so you may find that if you are having an examination a doctor may request a chaperone be present.

It is helpful if you are able to ask reception for a chaperone in advance, either when you book your appointment or when you arrive for your appointment. However, you can request a chaperone at any time during your appointment.

Private Medical Examinations

Some private medical examinations are offered at our surgery, however depending on which medical examination is being requested, there may be other work you need to carry out ahead of the medical examination at our surgery (e.g. an opticians eye test for a HGV medical).

Please contact reception for specific details of fees.

Interpreter

If you need an interpreter during your appointment, please let reception know at the time of booking.

The interpreter services request at least 2 days notice to be able to provide the service. If your require an interpreter more urgently then we will do our best to arrange this, we ask that you do not delay seeking any urgent medical attention.
